This seminar, developed by ARTEBRA [www.artebra.org], presents the theoriccal and methodological foundations to build an Emancipatory Education, as implemented through the Program “Education, Assistance & Citizenship” [EDAC]. This socio-educational program consist of thoeretical and practical activities, including arts and debates about social issues, oriented to children of 10 to 14 years old, studying in public schools. The EDAC Program’s main objetive is to develop the foundations of the critical thinking and social conscience, core basis for a fair, democratic and sustainable society.
The EDAC Program also develop a qualitative research, since few years, about the formation of the social conscience in local public schools, and the different ways in which formal education affects this process. Thuis research has produced so far three academic papers, seven conferences, two documentaries and one book in its publishing phase. All these materials are focused in Emancipatory Education and the contributions of Brazilian Social Service to School Education.
